Lithadelic Dry Stone Sphere by Devine-Escapes Lithadelic Dry Stone Sphere by Devine-Escapes
4 thousand pounds of all natural, Pennsylvania blue stone. Dry-laid, no cement, no glue. Lithadelic is a term of recent coinage, used to refer to dry laid stone work that is laid in a flowing manner.

I somehow imagined this with water pouring down it from the top - which would look awesome...but require an expensive pump ^^; Still, I've been to a lot of garden nurseries and this looks on par with the display features they have at those (which can sometimes cost thousands :faint:)

I sing to my stones and they comport themselves nicely. There's also some lifting and chiseling involved.

That's a nice stone sphere you got there. It would be a shame if someone... Tipped it over.

It survived two truck rides...plus I've climbed it numerous times...Plus, I know well the engineering that went into it's construction and I can say one thing fo' sho'--it would take a great deal of force to tip it over.

Thank you

Beautiful work! How much planning goes into making a stone sphere? I'd imagine quite a bit. Also, do you try to use the stones as-is, or do you carve them to fit?

And yes, the stones were individually carved.

Oh I love earth-works! Were you somewhat inspired by Andy Goldsworthy? I love his work too!

I am a fan of goldsworthys work...but not such a big fan of his stone work, per-se`. Well, the stone eggs were cool. Mostly I dig his more ephemeral work...built in situ, where all he uses is the material that he finds on-site. So yeah, no direct influence upon this piece.

What a neat addition to the garden! Looks like a whole lot of work, but definitely well worth it! It'd be near to see how it ages over time, too!
Is the sphere hollow, or completely solid?

perhaps this will sound like a silly question, but how many stones would you say are in this... and what are the dimensions. This is a stunning piece thank you for sharing it.

Exactly 2012 stones....I was originally planning this sphere to be a trans-dimensional teleportation device--my ticket out of here for 12/21/2012. Well, it turns out my stone stacking abilities were not equal to the task of building such a device out of stone. Luckily, the zombies did not happen! Anyhoot, silly questions deserve silly answers...or maybe I'm serious? the sphere itself has a radius of 26" and weighs just about 2 tons. thank you
